This is a replica of vintage French handcuffs from the late 19th century like it was used by the police and in prisons. The handling of the restraint is slightly laborious compared to modern handcuffs and so it is rather meant for the collector than for actual use, although it is of course fully functional. The bows are made of single links similar to a bicycle chain. The cuff is locked with a kind of screw-bolt and a special screw key. There are two locking positions per side. Correctly applied it is very difficult for a restrained person to free himself, even if he had the key. The handcuff is made of nickel plated steel, the workmanship is excellent.

Afterwards the chain is secured by use of a padlock. If used as handcuffs, the rest of the chain can be used for leading the prisoner or for chaining him to a fix object to prevent escape.
